The Craters of Caldir

Scenario

The Craters of Caldir are scorching places, where volcanic lava flows in viscous rivers, solidifying into fertile plains where the Fire Trees grow. The unnatural landscape is filled with brightly coloured mushrooms above and below the ground, scenting the air with moss and cloves when consumed by the heat.

The Tieflings, its main inhabitants, settled here seeking protection hundreds of years ago, when the Abyssal Empire dissolved in the Great Night, hunted and persecuted by the Empyreans.

Here the Tieflings and the Fire Goblins founded illustrious cities and kingdoms with wonderful and melancholy features, as the Caldirians love the arts and humour above all and never refrain from making fun of conflicts and politics, in which they also take part.

Archetypes

Caldirians have the most original and absurd ways of organising themselves in factions, and they pride themselves on their uniqueness.

The Caldirian Citadels

The first Tieflings to flee into the region organised themselves into Citadels, similar to those they had left behind in Arkaia. Unlike the Kasmian League, however, these heavily fortified cities do not formally respect the oracle of Al-Kasm, which they usually ignore completely. Tieflings and red goblins live in these cities open to knowledge and strangers, full of books and a passion for magic and challenges.

To chase away melancholy and cheer up the soul, the focus of these isolated cities are usually parties and duels. Both of them take place in the arena, which each city is equipped with.

Every inhabitant of a Caldirian Citadel lives in anticipation of the next festival, which attracts visitors, fire-breathers and acrobats of all kinds.

The Crimson Legions

No one knows the true origin of the Red Goblins, as the Tieflings themselves, great scholars of Narrantis, first reported their presence when they first settled in the region.

Confused and chaotic, the Crimson Legions’ camps seem like an absolute parody of the other two Goblin legions.

In fact, they too have a hierarchy, which they however struggle to respect, and are organized in a confusing, often chaotic way. The soul of the commanders of these legions is very fickle and stormy, like an active volcano always ready to explode.

A characteristic of the Crimson Legions is the fact that they love animals, exotic to them as there are not many native to the region.

In fact, it is said that in the past some Crimson Legions had chickens as heads of state and that they raided their targets only when the chickens ate greedily enough.

The Holds of Masked Sorrows

Mysterious fortresses are shrouded in legend, some even say that the Holds of Masked Sorrows never existed.

It is said that when the Abyssal Empire was defeated and the Tieflings retreated, the Dragons were exterminated by the Empyreans in a single Great Night. From that moment on, the friends of the dragons, numerous among the Tieflings, withdrew to fortresses hidden among the Craters of Caldir, and their faces were so sad that they began to cover them.

For the inhabitants of the Caldirian Holds, secrecy is their way of life., covering their faces at all times and distrusting anyone outside their faction.

They frequently ask for passwords and riddles and consider showing one’s face to be rude if not sacrilege. Even their names are difficult to discern as they conceal it regularly.
